Nau Beauty began with my daughter.
She was born with deeper brown skin than anyone else in our family. Almost from the start, strangers felt free to comment on it, remarking on how dark she is, as if it were something to notice or fix. As a Vietnamese father, I know where those comments come from. In many communities, especially across Asia, lighter skin has long been treated as the ideal, and darker skin as something less. I didn’t want my daughter to grow up believing that.
So I started Nau Beauty. (“Nâu” is the Vietnamese word for brown.)
This site is a home for brown and dark skin beauty, in every culture and every country. Here you’ll find:
- News and product launches that finally work for deeper skin tones
- Stories of people who are challenging colorism in their communities
- Honest conversations about skin color, culture, and the beauty industry
- A global view, because colorism and the fight against it look different everywhere
Our mission is simple: every child with brown skin should grow up seeing themselves celebrated.
Thank you for being here.
